Vertex 4

OCZ’s Vertex 4 comes with the company’s very own Indilinx Everest 2 controller, capable of reaching a maximum sequential read speed of 535 MB/s and a maximum sequential write speed of 475 MB/s while IOPS numbers are at 95,000 and 85,000 for read and write respectively. Its predecessor, the Vertex 3, was powered by SandForce’s SF-2281 controller. Along with the controller are modules of Intel 25 nm NAND flash memory in synchronous format. The drive is available in three capacities namely 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB.

The Vertex 4 features a very low latency at 0.02 ms. It also comes with OCZ’s Ndurance 2.0 Technology which is supposed to increase the reliability of the drive as well as its durability. OCZ also promises that the Vertex 4’s performance will not be hindered by compression-related limitations which means the drive can handle both compressed and uncompressed files very well. The Vertex 4 comes with a five-year warranty.

Reviews:

anandtech (archived):

Vertex 4 is a unique drive that really delivers a lot of what we’ve been asking for from a performance standpoint, but with some tangible caveats that we’re told will be resolved in the coming weeks.

thessdreview:

The Vertex 4 hits the mark in performance (and then some), warranty, availability and price and I might be out on a ledge here folks but I am standing by it.

pcmag:

OCZ’s latest refresh of its Vertex line of solid-state drives addresses some crucial issues, but the changes won’t make it the ideal SSD for everyone.
