Boost

Edge Technology introduces the relatively cheap Boost SSD in six capacites: 40 GB, 60 GB, 80 GB, 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB. This SATA II solid state drive can reach a sequential read speed of 285 MB/s. The drive’s sequential write speed is not that far at 275 MB/s. It can reach a maximum write IOPS of 50,000 and can sustain up to 30,000.

Boost SSD is compatible with SATA I and SATA 6 Gbps interfaces. Edge Tech Boost SSD supports 128-bit AES hardware encryption and Secure Erase function. The encryption though is not currently compatible with Macintosh computers. TRIM commands are also supported as well as S.M.A.R.T and DuraWrite. The latter is a hint that the Boost SSD is powered by a SandForce controller and it truly is running with SF-1222. In essence, this drive is very similar to Patriot’s Inferno. Other technologies that are supported include wear-leveling, RAISE, ECC and Garbage Collection.

This MLC NAND Flash device must be operated within the temperature boundaries of 32° F to 158° F. The maximum force it can withstand is 1500 G and can resist vibrations as strong as 16.4 g RMS. The Mean Time Between Failure for Edge Tech’s Boost SSD is 2,000,000 hours and has a warranty of three years.
