The Vertex 3 Low Profile (LP) series of solid-state drives are specially made by OCZ for personal computers with thin bodies. Its 7 mm thickness makes it one of the sleekest SATA III 6 Gbps SSDs on the market. But the Vertex 3 LP is more than just looks. Its maximum sequential speed of 535 MB/s for read and 520 MB/s for write allows it to compete with other similar SSDs such as OCZ’s very own Vertex 4 or Corsair’s Nova Series, and of course the standard Vertex 3.
The drive comes in four capacites: 60 GB, 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB. The 240 GB variant gives the highest IOPS numbers at 85,000 and 60,000 for random 4k read and write respectively. Each capacity comes with a three-year service warranty that includes toll-free tech support, 24-hour forum support, and firmware updates.
The Vertex 3 LP SSD is powered by SandForce’s 2281 controller. This controller is responsible for handling the 2xnm synchronous MLC NAND flash modules inside the SSD. The drive supports both SMART and TRIM. The MTBF for this drive is two million hours.
