Torqx 2

Patriot gambles with the rarely seen Phison controller to bring out the Torqx 2 series of SSDs. This SATA 3Gb/s controller Torqx 2delivers a read speed of up to 270 Mbps and write speed of up tp 230 Mbps. Although its performance is not at par with its newer brothers such as Wildfire and Pyro, it comes at a lower price.

The Phison PS3105-S5 controller utilizes a 32-bit ARC 600 RISC CPU/DSP processor core which can support both a 128MB or 256MB DDR cache. Patriot opted to use a 128 MB cache with a 32nm MLC NAND flash memory. The drive can withstand vibrations of 80 to 2000 Hz at 20 G and operating shock of up to 1500 G. Like most Patriot drives, Torqx 2 supports TRIM commands for Windows 7 and allows multiple drive connections through RAID technology.

The Torqx 2 might be miles apart from Vertex 3, but it must be considered by anyone who wants to make the transition from traditional HDDs to SSDs.

REVIEWS:

neoseeker:

The Patriot TorqX 2 128GB SSD is a great high performance SSD for those who want sturdy and powerful drives without going all out. It has great performance in all categories, useful features like the TRIM command, and high quality components.

storagereview:

The Patriot Torqx 2 is a disappointment compared to common SSDs more or less from the last generation of drives. Given the release date, it might have been more appropriate to include something like the Intel SSD 320, but then unfortunately it gets even worse for the Torqx 2. The Phison controller is simply not up to par with the Intel, Toshiba, and SandForce SF-1200 equipped drives.

thessdreview:

All in all, congratulations to Patriot for not only listening to consumer demand for a price conscious SSD that has availably capacity, but also, for sticking with the 99% of computer users that are still living in the SATA 2 computer world.
