TerraNova is dubbed by Super Talent as their “fastest 2.5 inch SSD.” Taking a closer look at the solid state drive, it might be the fastest one at the time
of its release. The TeraNova boasts of a maximum sequential read speed of 540 MB/s and a sequential write speed of 520 MB/s. These numbers are similar to another SATA III SSD in the market, Patriot’s Wildfire. This maybe because both drives are powered by SandForce’s SF-2281 controller. Within the TeraNova SSD are 16 modules of Micron 25nm flash modules contained on the same PCB as its predecessor, the TeraDrive CT3.
The TeraNova SSD is available on four capacities: 60 GB, 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB. Each of these variants have superior wear-leveling and a data retention of up to ten years. Data reliability is ensured via the built-in EDC/ECC functions. The Mean Time Between Failure of this drive is 2,000,000 hours while its warranty is up to 2 years.
Super Talent claims that the Tera Nova optimizes transfer rates at various queue depths. This technique made the drive rank well in a variety of benchmark tests. As a SandForce powered SSD, the TeraNova also features the technologies that make SF SSDs unique such as DuraWrite. Standard features like TRIM, RAID and SMART are also supported.

Reviews:
The Super Talent Tera Nova 120GB SSD is yet another example of the quality of new generation SATA 3 SSDs being unleashed in the consumer arena today. Their initial claim that it will reach into the Pro/enthusiast crowd might be a bit ambitious but one never knows as this Tera Nova hits its listed performance specifications of 540MB/s read and 510MB/s write disk transfer speeds dead on. The price point will be crucial as it alone can guarantee the success of the drive or, in contrast, can be a key factor in seeing the Tera Nova simply getting lost in the crowd.
