PX M3S

The M3S is an improved version of Plextor’s M2P series of solid state drives. With a sequential read and write speed of 525 MB/s and 445 MB/s respectively, it can be one of the fastest SATA III 6 Gbps drives in the market. The PX M3S is available in three capacities, namely 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. Random read IOPS at 4K can be high as 70,000 while the write IOPS can be as high as 65,000. A 256 MB DRAM Cache is available for the 128 GB model while a 512 MB Cache is present in both the 256 GB and 512 GB models.

The Mean Time Between Failure of the M3S is 1.5 million hours, lesser than most SATA III SSDs like Patriot’s Wildfire. The warranty of this drive is longer than usual though which is 5 years. This drive supports a variety of command set including SMART, TRIM, NCQ and ATA/ATAPI-8. Shock resistance is standard at 1500 G as well as the operating temperature (0 to 70 degress Celsius). Both data encryption and firmware upgrades are supported by the Plextor M3S. This drive also supports True Speed technology similar to M2P.

Plextor has a good thing going with the PX-M3S SSD; offering a great mix of performance and value. Priced well under most other mainstream SSDs, the M3S still offers very good performance and an industry leading five-year warranty. Buyers who don’t need the super-fast enthusiast-grade SSDs should definitely be considering Plextor’s latest offering.
