Pulsar.2

Seagate’s Pulsar.2 series of SAS (serial attached SCSI) solid-state drives are enterprise-class storage device that are based on MLC modules. The drives are available in capacities of 100 GB, 200 GB, 400 GB and 800 GB. The maximum sustained data transfer rate for the Pulsar.2 is 370 MB/s while the Input/Output data transfer rate is 600 MB/s. Max IOPS read/write are 48,000 and 15,000 respectively. The average latency is 0.21 ms and only 1 in 1016 bits is irrecoverable.

The annual failure rate of the drive is at 0.44% and the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) is 2,000,000 hours. The drive is hot-pluggable which means it can avoid unnecessary downtime. It also provides a common storage foundation to reduce system complexity and operating overhead. Seagate promises that the Pulsar.2 can take up to ten full drive writes per day.
