The MSA 720 is a mSATA III solid state drive from Transcend, with maximum sequential read and write speeds of 560 MB/s and 530 MB/s and a peak IOPS at 4k random write of 91,00o. The drive comes in two capacities: 64 GB and 128 GB and with a form factor suited for mobile device use. Indeed, the MSA720 is meant to be used as a cache drive in partnership with a traditional hard disk.
The SSDs performance is justified by the use of SandForce’s SF-2281 controller which has become a staple for all SATA III solid state drives. As expected, SMART and TRIM support is present as well as AES for added protection. The MSA720 is expected to be used in notebooks and ultrabooks which utilize Intel’s new Ivy Bridge line of processors.
