PX M5S

The PX M5S from Plextor is a slightly inferior series of SSD compared to the PX M5P. This inferiority is most notable on the MTBF of the drives. The PX M5S has an MTBF of only 1,500,000 hours while the M5P has an MTBF of 2,400,000 hours. Consequently, the M5S only comes with a three-year warranty compared to the other’s 5 year warranty.

But being a SATA III solid state drive, the PX M5S is still able to reach a maximum sequential read and write speed of 520 MB/s and 390 MB/s respectively. IOPS numbers are listed as 73,000 for random 4k read and 70,000 for random 4k write. Support for TRIM, S.M.A.R.T. and NCQ is present as well as data encryption. The PX M5S comes in capacities of 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB.

 Reviews:

tomshardware:

For the time being, at the right price, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Plextor’s M5S to anyone looking for a fast SSD able to deliver blazingly fast desktop performance.

anandtech:

All in all, Plextor’s M5S is a good drive but it doesn’t really bring anything new to the market. The M3 has been available since late 2011 and the M5S is basically M3 with a couple changes.

thessdreview:

All in all, congratulations Plextor on a great transition into the SSD arena as your SSDs are solid and we would have no problem recommending them to the consumer.
