Vertex 450

The Vertex 450 from OCZ is a solid state drive utilizing the SATA 3 interface. This drive is available in three capacities: 128 GB, 256 GB vertex450_lrgand 512 GB. The maximum sequential read speed that the Vertex 450 can achieve is 540 MB/s while the maximum sequential write speed is 530 MB/s. Both figures are only achieved by the 512 GB variant. At low 4k disc access, the max IOPS numbers are 85,000 and 90,000 for read and write respectively.

Running the show for the Vertex 450 is Indilinx’s Barefoot 3 M10 controller. This is accompanied by 20 nm NAND cells in MLC format. The Vertex 450 is said to withstand 20 GB per day of write operation for three years. Consequently, this drive comes with a three-year warranty. Features include SMART for health monitoring, TRIM and Idle Time Garbage Collection.

There’s no question that OCZ has a really nice drive on its hands with the 256GB Vertex 450 SSD. In most of our benchmark tests, it either beat the competition or hung close to the top two or three drives. Regardless, the Vertex 450 showed solid consistency and great bandwidth across all workloads.
