The M500 is a SATA III solid state drive from Crucial. It is available in four capacities namely 120 GB, 240 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB 
each having a limited three year warranty. The M500 can reach a maximum sequential read speed of 500 MB/s and a maximum sequential write speed of 400 MB/s. Meanwhile, 80,000 IOPS is the figure for 4k random read.
The M500 is powered by Marvell’s 88SS9187 controller together with MLC NAND flash modules manufactured using 20 nm technology. This SSD features hardware encryption based on TCG Opal 2.0 + IEEE 1667 that would keep data inside it secured if the device is lost or stolen. The M500 also has a thermal management system that allows it to adjust power consumption depending on usage and error recovery schemes in case power losses are accidentally experienced.
