The SanDisk Extreme II is a solid state drive utilizing the SATA III 6 Gbps interface. It follows SanDisk’s Extreme SSD, also a SATA III 
device, but runs on SandForce’s SF-2281 controller. The Extreme II’s Marvell 88SS9187 controller gives this drive a maximum sequential read speed of 550 MB/s and a maximum sequential write speed of 510 MB/s. Maximum IOPS numbers for the Extreme II are 95,000 and 78,000 for random read and write respectively.
Like its predecessor, the Extreme, the Extreme II follows a 2.5″ form factor with 7 mm z-height. Together with the Marvell 88SS9187 controller in its core are 19 nm ABL eX2 Toggle Mode NAND flash memory modules. Users can choose between 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB models with each having their own DRAM caches. The shift from a SandForce to a Marvell controller is justified by the utilized in-house firmware. The Extreme II has a Total Bytes Written (TBW) of 80 TB, comes with a limited five-year warranty and a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of 2,000,000 hours.

With great worst case performance and good IO consistency in that state, I can recommend SanDisk’s Extreme II without any stipulations which I greatly appreciate.
The SanDisk Extreme II is a performance-driven SSD that provides high endurance and a long warranty along with performance that for the most part matches that of comparable SSDs.
Where SanDisk was once nowhere to be found, all now understand that they are a force to be reckoned with and deserving of our Editor’s Choice once again. They deserve top marks for performance, pricing, capacity and warranty.
