Vertex 2 EX

The Vertex 2 EX is the SLC version of OCZ Technology’s Vertex 2. As such, it has ten times the P/E cycles of its MLC counterpart but at equal 4k random writes at 50,000 IOPS. Its sequential read speed is capped at 285 MB/s while its write speed can be as high as 275 MB/s. The Vertex 2 EX is available in three capacities: 50 GB, 100 GB and 200 GB.

A temporary backup in case of power loss is provided by a built in capacitor. Reliability and endurance of the device is enhanced via intelligent block management and wear-leveling algorithms. As an SLC solid state drive, the Vertex 2 EX boasts a Mean Time Between Failure of 10 million hours. This is backed up by a solid case design that can withstand a force as strong as 1500 G. This drive is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and linux and supports RAID configurations. ECC protection is also present and native TRIM support is also available. The drive comes with a 3.5 inch mounting bracket upon purchase.

Reviews:

overclockers tech:

It performed as well if not better than any enthusiast SSD out there with the added benefit of the enterprise features. The SandForce 1500 controller, the built in super capacitor, the AES-128 bit encryption, and the ECC function are all features not found in the typical desktop SSD and make the OCZ Vertex 2 EX a viable option for the most mission critical and demanding enterprise environments. The OCZ Vertex 2 EX without question deserves the Overclockers Tech Gold Award!

tecchanel:

The read / write scores and the outstanding IOPS are achievements that put this enterprise SSD on top of any SATA II storage device. An additional benefit for the drive is that it has been built with SLC NANDs, providing not only guaranteed high speed, but also 10x lifespan compared to the standard consumer drives operating on MLC NAND chips. Especially in file- and database server environments, where high IOPS rates are evidently important, the OCZ Vertex 2 EX leaves all competition behind in the dust.
